요르단 하심 왕국과 대한민국의 60년간의 협력

지난 2022년, 요르단 하심 왕국과 대한민국은 수교 60주년을 맞이했습니다. 압둘라 2세 이븐 알 후세인 국왕이 한국을 다섯 차례나 방문했다는 사실은 양국 간의 견고한 협력 관계를 잘 반영하고 있습니다.

요르단과 한국 사이의 물리적 거리에도 불구하고, 양국은 많은 공통점을 가지고 있습니다. 건국 후 한 세기 동안, 요르단은 한정된 천연자원과 주변의 지역적 위기에도 불구하고 안정과 현대화라는 오아시스를 지닌 온건한 국가로 성장하였습니다.

한국과 마찬가지로, 요르단은 어려움을 강점으로 승화시켜왔습니다. 요르단은 인적 자원과 서비스 분야에 막대한 투자를 하고 있으며, 외국인 투자 유치를 위해 건전하고 경쟁력 있는 환경을 조성하는데 힘쓰고 있습니다.

지난 60년 동안, 요르단과 한국은 경제와 무역, 투자 뿐만이 아니라, 재생 에너지와 녹색 성장, 교육, 문화, 스포츠 등 다양한 분야에서 양국 관계를 확대하고 다각화하는데 성공하였고, 여러 한국 기업들이 요르단에서 주요 프로젝트를 성공적으로 수행했습니다.

개발협력 차원에서도 양국은 수자원, 교육, 보건 등의 핵심 분야에서 공동 프로젝트를 수행한 바 있습니다. 요르단은 한국국제협력단(KOICA) 및 한국수출입은행과의 협력에 대해 높게 평가하고 있습니다.

요르단은 더욱 많은 한국 관광객들이 요르단의 경이로운 아름다움을 만끽하고 세계적인 수준의 관광 시설들을 체험할 수 있기를 고대하고 있습니다. 요르단에 있는 수많은 성지와 역사적인 유적지들, 그리고 힐링, 모험, 자연 생태 관광지들은 한국 관광객들의 다양한 취향과 연령에 맞는 독특한 경험을 선사할 것입니다.

요르단은 한국과의 파트너쉽 관계를 매우 자랑스럽게 생각하고 있습니다. 향후 양국은 첨단 농업 기술과 원자력 기술, 방위 산업, 보건 등 다양한 미래 유망 협력 분야를 지속적으로 모색하며, 양국 간 협력 범위를 확대하기 위하여 최선을 다할 것입니다.

글을 마무리하며, 대한민국과 아랍 국가들 간의 관계 증진을 위해 헌신적으로 노력하는 한국-아랍소사이어티와 서울대학교 아시아연구소에 감사의 말씀을 전합니다.

 

Six Decades of Cooperation between the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the Republic of Korea

 

The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the Republic of Korea celebrated their sixtieth anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations in 2022. The fact that His Majesty King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein visited the Republic of Korea five times attests to the strength of our partnership.

Despite the physical distance between them, Jordan and the Republic of Korea have much in common. Since its founding over a century ago, Jordan blossomed into as an oasis of stability, modernity and moderation despite its limited natural resources and the regional crises that surround it.

Just like the Republic of Korea, Jordan turned difficulties into strengths. The Kingdom has been investing heavily in its human resources and services sector as well as creating a sound and competitive environment for foreign investments.

During the last six decades, Jordan and the Republic of Korea succeeded in augmenting and diversifying bilateral relations in various sectors including -but not limited to- renewable energy, green growth, education, culture and sports as well as economy, trade and investment. Several Korean companies established successful projects in Jordan.

In the context of our development cooperation, we created joint projects in vital sectors namely water, education and health. Jordan highly values its collaboration with the Korea International Cooperation Agency and the Korea Export-Import Bank.

Jordan is keen on welcoming more Korean tourists to enjoy the Kingdom’s breathtaking beauty and experience its world class facilities. Our biblical, historical, healing, adventure, nature and eco sites offer unique experiences to suit all tastes and age groups.

Jordan is proud of its partnership with the Republic of Korea. In the years to come, we are committed to expanding its scope as we continue to explore future and promising areas of cooperation such as advanced agricultural technologies, nuclear energy technology, defense industries and health among others.

In closing, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Korea Arab Society and the Asia Center at the Seoul National University for their hard work and dedication to enhancing ties between the Republic of Korea and the Arab world.
