Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah was killed in a drone attack in southern Beirut, Lebanon, on September 27, 2024. This indicates the escalation of Israel’s operation to eliminate Hezbollah as the Israel-Palestine war expands into Lebanon. Nasrallah was killed by an Israeli-developed drone while meeting with his close associates in a building in the Dahieh area of southern Beirut.
Kais Saied Wins Second Term Amid Low Voter Turnout and Criticism of His Power Consolidation

Tunisian President Kais Saied has secured a second term in office following the presidential election held on October 6, 2024, with an overwhelming majority of 90.7% of the vote. This margin is even larger than that achieved by former President Ben Ali in 2009, just two years before he was forced to flee the country amid mass protests.

The European Union (EU) and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) held their first summit in Brussels, Belgium, on October 16. On the EU side, the President of the European Council, the President of the European Commission, and key leaders of member states participated. On the GCC side, leaders and senior officials from six countries—Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Oman—attended.
Debate on Constitutional Amendments in Turkey

Turkey, with no elections remaining until the 2028 general elections, is busy with discussions on constitutional amendments. On October 14, Erdoğan called for constitutional reform, stating, “We will elevate Turkey above the level of contemporary civilization.” Turkey’s current constitution was drafted by the military in 1982 following the 1980 coup. The 1982 constitution brought three major changes through nationwide referendums.
