This year, rainfall in Iran has decreased by 89% compared to normal. Tehran, which averages 350mm annually, has received less than 1mm this year. Many other parts of Iran have also experienced no rain. As a result of the prolonged drought, the Amir Kabir Dam, Tehran&#8217;s main water reservoir, is at less than 10% of its capacity and is expected to be completely depleted within a month. The reservoir in Mashhad, the country&#8217;s second-largest city, is at just below 3% of its capacity.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The unprecedented drought has prompted the government to consider extraordinary measures if rain does not arrive. The Iranian government has announced that it may cut off water supplies at night to reduce water waste, and the Mashhad municipal government has also announced that it is considering nighttime water cuts. Iranian President Masoud Fezeshikyan has warned that if the drought continues, Tehran residents may be forced to relocate in December. Tehran has already implemented measures to limit the amount of bottled water per person and reduce water usage by reducing water pressure at night. Desperate, people are turning to mosques for rain prayers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Religious groups have blamed the drought on the &#8220;moral decline of society.&#8221; Conservative religious figures have claimed that God brought the drought on in anger at the rampant corruption and debauchery on the streets, while some conservative lawmakers have even blamed the government for its decision not to enforce the mandatory hijab.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Iranian government has begun artificial rainmaking. On November 16, a &#8220;cloud seeding&#8221; operation was launched to induce rain in the parched Lake Urumia basin, with additional efforts planned for nearby areas. Cloud seeding is a method of artificially inducing rain by spraying chemical particles into clouds to condense water vapor.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:
