The Indictment of the Istanbul Mayor, the CHP\u2019s Crisis, and Public Polarization<\/b><\/p>\n

In March 2025, the Istanbul Criminal Court arrested and detained \u0130mamo\u011flu on 142 counts, including forming and operating a criminal organization, bribery, public procurement rigging, unauthorized access to personal data, embezzlement, and money laundering. The indictment runs nearly 3,900 pages, naming a total of 402 suspects, including \u0130mamo\u011flu. Prosecutors are demanding a maximum prison sentence of up to 2,352 years\u2014rising to 2,430 years according to some media estimates. \u0130mamo\u011flu firmly denies all charges, and opposition groups and civil society organizations interpret the trial as a case of political persecution.
