Trump’s Election and the Gaza War<\/b><\/p>\n

President-elect Trump actively supports Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his security policy, and during the TV debate for this presidential election, he criticized the Democratic Party’s policy toward Israel, claiming that “if Democratic candidate Kamala Harris is elected, Israel will disappear.” In July, President-elect Trump reportedly requested an end to the war before his term begins in January 2025 if he is elected president, and thus it is expected that he will likely press for an early end to the Gaza War.<\/p>\n The key is the specific way the next Trump administration will bring about an end to the war. Senator Marco Rubio, nominated by President-elect Trump as the next Secretary of State, and Representative Mike Waltz, chosen by President-elect Trump as National Security Advisor, are typical pro-Israel politicians, and Elise Stefanik, who criticized the UN for being anti-Semitic, was selected as the US Ambassador to the UN. Mike Huckabee, nominated as the US Ambassador to Israel, opposes the establishment of a Palestinian state and supports Israel\u2019s sovereignty over the West Bank. There is a strong outlook that the Trump administration, comprised of pro-Israel figures, will pursue a Middle East policy that actively supports Israel.<\/p>\n Israeli right-wing politicians also welcomed Trump\u2019s election. On November 11, Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich claimed that Trump\u2019s election was an opportunity for Israel to take control of the West Bank. Hamas has expressed its willingness to negotiate a ceasefire, demanding that President-elect Trump pressure Israel, but given the favorable political situation in the United States, Israel has no reason to be active in ceasefire negotiations. In fact, Qatar, which mediated the ceasefire negotiations between Israel and Hamas, declared that it would stop mediating, citing the lack of will on both sides to negotiate. In Lebanon, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz emphasized that there would be no ceasefire until the goal was achieved. In order to persuade such a hard-line Israel, the Trump administration is likely to offer Israel exceptionally favorable terms and promises in exchange for ending the war<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
