So how would a second Trump administration affect the Middle East? For Iran, Trump’s return to power represents a nightmare scenario. As soon as Trump’s return to power was announced, the Iranian currency, the rial, fell to historic lows. During his previous term, Trump assassinated Iranian Revolutionary Guard Commander Qasem Soleimani and implemented an extreme pressure policy against Iran.<\/p>\n The possibility of returning to the Iran nuclear deal has once again become uncertain. While Trump has mentioned the possibility of resuming nuclear negotiations with Iran, from Iran’s perspective, the experience during his first term remains traumatic. Trump unilaterally withdrew from the nuclear agreement in 2018 and assassinated Commander Soleimani, who led the Shia belt, in 2020.<\/p>\n As tensions between Iran and Israel escalate, Trump’s election is likely to amplify this conflict further. Trump has already expressed support for Israeli strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.
