Concerns about the deterioration of relations between Israel and Arab countries have been raised amid the prolonged conflict between Israel and Hamas. Following the signing of the Abraham Accords in 2020, which aimed to normalize relations between Israel and the UAE and Bahrain, there were expectations for further improvement in relations between Arab countries and Israel, especially with the possibility of normalization between Saudi Arabia and Israel in 2023. However, as the Israel-Hamas conflict prolongs and indiscriminate attacks by the Israeli military on the Gaza Strip continue, there are analyses suggesting that relations with Arab countries are at risk of further deterioration.<\/p>\n
Indeed, Jordan summoned the Israeli resident ambassador last November, and Egyptian authorities warned that the influx of Gaza residents into Egypt could jeopardize the peace treaty maintained for decades. Additionally, it has been reported that the Israeli embassies in Bahrain, Morocco, and Egypt have remained in Israel since the outbreak of the war last year. Currently, only the Israeli embassy in the United Arab Emirates is reported to be operating normally. While some Arab countries have suspended flights to Israel during this conflict, the UAE continues to maintain direct flights to Israel.<\/p>\n
Despite the ongoing conflict, relations between the UAE and Israel seem to be maintained, albeit with increasing uncertainty. Some high-ranking officials in the UAE have been outspoken in their criticism of Israel, and negative opinion towards Israel among the UAE public have been observed even before the war.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, concerns about the future of Israel-UAE relations have been raised as British energy company BP and the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) of the UAE suspended negotiations to acquire a 50% stake in NewMed Energy, which leads the development of natural gas in the Eastern Mediterranean, citing external environmental uncertainties.<\/p>\n
