Morocco, because of its geographic location at the crossroads of Europe, Africa, the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, has always sheltered a diversity of people, with the Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Romans, Vandals, Amazighs, Arabs, Mediterraneans, and Africans, shaping it just as a traditional \u201cZelige mosaic\u201d of joyful, kind, and hospitable warm people, attached to their values and traditions. Moroccans today have indeed, inherited of an astonishingly rich patrimony, of which testify the languages, religions, monarchy, music, art and architecture with its many palaces, mosques, forts and riads. Not speaking of the clothes, marked by the elegant \u201cgandouras\u201d and dazzling \u201ckaftans\u201d, but also the vivid streets of medinas\u2019 markets with their smells and colors of spices, wood and leather, hosting one of the most unique craftmanship of the world.<\/p>\n

A diversity that reflects the landscapes which shaped the people and its customs, offering views blinding by their beauty. Like, for example, with the crimson Atlas Mountain and its rocky spires, the azury Mediterranean and its golden sand beaches, the ochre dunes of the Sahara, the turquoise waterfalls of Ouzoud, the mysterious dark Atlantic Ocean, or the bright green oasis of Zagora. So many colors that gave their character to cities like Marrakech, Ouarzazate, Laayoune, Dakhla, Meknes or Fes. Cities where Korean tourists will enjoy the wanderings between sweet, sour, salty, spicy and meaty flavors offered by the Moroccan cuisine. They might let themselves charmed by the juicy charcoal grills, a generous \u201ccouscous\u201d, colorful \u201ctajines\u201d or a smoking \u201ctanjia\u201d before ending the day on a comforting Moroccan mint tea.<\/p>\n

The same way the superb performance our soccer team, the Atlas Lions, put up at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, being the first Arab and African nation to attain semi-finals, gave our country a new light. Morocco shows great achievement that must not be over-shadowed by the touristic attraction it has.<\/p>\n

It has, in deed, developed an excellence in industries such as: the automotive one (first producer in Africa and second exporter to Europe), the aeronautical one as a main subcontracting destination (especially for wiring, mechanics, sheet metal work, composites and mechanical assembly), or in clean energies where it contends with the world\u2019s leaders, sourcing two-fifths of its electricity from renewables and launching some of the largest projects thanks to its production potential in green hydrogen, solar, wind and hydropower. To this can be added more traditional industries like trade, tourism, agriculture, film-making or phosphate production (being its largest exporter).<\/p>\n

Now Morocco is aiming at its future, investing to build-up the necessary capacities in cutting-edge tech fields such as pharmaceutical, Biotech or gaming industries. In pursuit of this goal, it has developed last-gen clusters, and tax-relief and investor-friendly policies to provide the most hospitable ground for these industries to flourish.<\/p>\n

Relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Korea is a long-lasting one, based on deep friendship, trust, mutual respect and historical similarities that allow for understanding. It gained momentum in the last decade, with an increasing number of high-level visits, research of economic perspectives and the creation of diverse cooperation projects.<\/p>\n

Diplomatic relations were established in 1962, with the opening in Morocco of the first Korean representation in Africa. Ever since, our relations grew stronger culminating last year with the 60th<\/sup> anniversary of diplomatic ties, for which a panoply of economic, political and cultural events was organized. We saw the \u201cMorocco Roadshow\u201d in July, the launching of the new brand \u201cMorocco Now\u201d or the holding, last December, of bilateral political consultation between the two Ministers of Foreign affairs.<\/p>\n

However, our ties go long further back and much deeper than 1962, they go back to the Korean War and the sacrifice of voluntary Moroccan soldiers sent by his late Majesty, the King Mohammed V, to fight for Korea\u2019s freedom within the French\/UN Battalion, making us, thus, blood brothers. Therefore, competent authorities of both countries are now conducting investigations to find the veterans\u2019 descendants, and are organizing commemorative events in their honor. Lately, the family of one of them, Late El Asri Mohamed Ben Kaddour, was discovered, and on the occasion of a seminar, end of May, ceremonies will be held both in Seoul and Busan with the family coming for the occasion to Korea.<\/p>\n

Today, we are working toward an ever-stronger collaboration, with cooperation developing in fields ranging from economic, cultural, educational, academic, sanitary, in research or in technology transfers.
