Donald Trump was elected as the US President in November. President-elect Trump actively supports Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his security policy, and during the TV debate for this presidential election, he criticized the Democratic Party\u2019s policy toward Israel, claiming that \u201cif Democratic candidate Kamala Harris is elected, Israel will disappear.\u201d In July, President-elect Trump reportedly requested an end to the war before his term begins in January 2025 if he is elected president, and thus it is expected that he will likely press for an early end to the Gaza War.<\/p>\n

TAs former President Donald Trump potentially returns to office following the U.S. presidential election, attention is turning to possible shifts in U.S. Middle East policy. Gulf states, traditionally close allies of the U.S., appear to welcome Trump\u2019s return to power. However, there are simultaneous concerns that his administration\u2019s second term might pursue a Middle East policy distinct from that of his first, reflecting changes in the global order.<\/span><\/p>\n

On the 6th of November (local time), after the results of the U.S. presidential election were confirmed, Erdo\u011fan spoke with Trump over the phone, requesting that the war in Gaza be stopped and inviting him to Turkey. On X (formerly Twitter), Erdo\u011fan wrote, \u201cI congratulate my friend, Donald Trump, who was re-elected as President of the United States after a great struggle. The Turkey-U.S. relationship will be strengthened, and I believe that there will be more efforts for a more just world, particularly in bringing an end to regional and global crises and wars, including the Palestinian issue and the Russia-Ukraine war.\u201d The following day, after attending the European Political Community summit, he spoke to the press on the plane, saying, \u201cTrump promised to end the conflict.\u201d<\/p>\n

While Donald Trump\u2019s victory in the US presidential election would have global implications, it could particularly reshape the dynamics in the Middle East region once again. So how would a second Trump administration affect the Middle East? For Iran, Trump\u2019s return to power represents a nightmare scenario. As soon as Trump\u2019s return to power was announced, the Iranian currency, the rial, fell to historic lows. During his previous term, Trump assassinated Iranian Revolutionary Guard Commander Qasem Soleimani and implemented an extreme pressure policy against Iran.<\/p>\n
